THE BIG LITTLE BEAD™ NEWS |
| Since we printed our first newsletter in 1999, the cost of printing, paper and postage has risen dramatically making it cost prohibitive to mail the newsletter. Later this year, we will begin distributing our newsletter via email. In addition to being kind to the environment, this will allow us to maintain better contact with you through monthly updates. We do not, and will not share our mailing list. We will not inundate your mailbox with messages - you can expect a monthly schedule of classes and information about new beads and products. If you are on a special interest mailing lists, you will also receive occasional notices about events and products that relate to those special interests. So sign up for our email list next time you are in the store and look for the sign up box on our website later this year. | ||||||

As the temperature rises, cool down your look with jewelry in sea greens, turquoise and neutrals. Colors of the earth and tropical rainforests are key to this trend, especially shades of green, from the deepest forest to a clear, rain-kissed leafy hue. Earth tones combined with deep shades like navy and pomegranate add a luscious contrast to these natural wonders. Create a suede lariat; combine wood and chain; tie up semiprecious stones on linen cording: think tiger eye, river stone, picture jasper, natural color shell; incorporate natural motifs of leaves and flowers. Turquoise, a perennial summer favorite, is fabulous mixed with coral, mother of pearl, gold or silver. Full skirts and high waist pants are bringing a vintage feel to summer style. Play on that look with a short bead choker at the neckline (pearls will look so classic) or a matinee length bead and chain necklace. A fabulous pair of earrings will make you look cool - long drops or chandeliers swinging in the breeze you’re wishing for on the hottest days of summer.

BABOO®'S TREASURE CHEST
![]() SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL "Custom Coats” are special exotic, metallic coatings applied to one side of Swarovski beads and stones for added brilliance and sparkle. They reflect various shades as they turn in the light and add depth to the base color. The coatings are NOT applied by Swarovski. You’ll like all the yummy colors - we like them because it is very difficult to get fancy colors directly from Swarovski. Beautiful large, round 23mm and 27mm Swarovski Crystal Buttons make a dramatic statement on your most elegant attire or a spectacular closure on a beaded bracelet or use them in place of a rivoli in your beadwork. $4.00 to $8.50 The classic DeArte Pendant is available in two sizes. Use the 24mm as a necklace pendant and the 8mm for earrings. $6.00 and $11.00. Or try the long, elegant 5x20mm Column Pendants for both a pendant and earrings. $6.50 to $8.75. Sparkly Flower and Butterfly beads will help you focus on the sunny days ahead. 14mm or 18mm butterflies and 6mm or 8mm flowers. Price $.75 to $2.00 Charming, flashy 11x10mm Briolette Beads make a lovely pendant for a lightweight necklace. $3.75 The Triangle Ring is a new addition to the Square Frame and Cosmic Ring styles. 14mm ($6.75), 20mm ($16.75) and 30mm ($27.00) sizes in 8 luscious colors. More of those delightful 26mm Leaf Pendants. In 6 different colors. Perfect in the Sweet Summer Necklace. Twice a year Swarovski works with fashion industry forecasters to define new style trends. This season the theme is “back to nature” with an earthy and natural feel. We are offering you a taste of each of five new trends in our Swarovski Trend Collection. Each tube contains 57 beads in assorted sizes and colors for only 10.99. How do you use a no-hole crystal stone if you don’t do beadweaving? Why with our Rivoli, Cosmic Ring and Square Ring link and connector settings. Available in goldtone or silvertone, simply glue your Swarovski crystal into the setting and you have a ready-made pendant or connector. $6.00 to $10.75. We recommend E6000 Glue for maximum bonding strength. $4.50 (Why not learn beadweaving techniques with one of our many books on the subject or take one of our classes!) With so many new Swarovski crystals, we have to tell you again about Creating Crystal Jewelry with Swarovski by Laura McCabe. Complete step-by-step, directions guide you through 20 projects including luminous necklaces, earrings, pendants and rings. Charlottesville Bead Society Design Challenge Each member received an identical collection of beads and was challenged to create a unique piece of jewelry. The rules are simple: Participants may use any technique and add other beads and findings but, the final project must use all of the beads in the collection. While it is easy to see that all of the finished jewelry contains the challenge beads, whether it is a simple necklace or a floral fantasy, each piece is unique. The Charlottesville Bead Society was established in 1998 by a small group of bead enthusiasts who met regularly to exchange information and ideas about beads, beading and bead related arts. Meetings are held once a month from September through June. If you are interested in membership, please speak contact Studio Baboo. | ||||||

The winter class schedule is always the most challenging to put together – the chance of bad weather makes it difficult to schedule out-of-town instructors and sometimes makes it impossible for students to make it to class. So, if Charlottesville City and/or Albemarle County schools are closed due to weather conditions, classes are cancelled. If in doubt, call before coming to class. We will try to have the store open for shopping regardless of the weather conditions and suggest you call before visiting on bad weather days.
